Ishmael’s journey of service began in 2005 when he and his wife, Molline Adhiambo Ochieng, felt called into full-time ministry while attending Bible School in Zambia. Upon returning to Kenya, they started an outreach in the Kiambiu slums of Nairobi—initially providing spiritual nourishment and basic feeding programs to orphans and vulnerable children. What began as a modest ministry soon expanded into a comprehensive support organization as Ishmael mobilized friends and partners to expand education, health, and income-generating initiatives for the community.
Under Ishmael’s leadership, Shelter of Hope Centre has grown to support hundreds of disadvantaged individuals across multiple programs. These include community learning centers in both Kiambiu (Nairobi) and Kagan (Homa Bay) offering affordable quality education, subsidized and free health care services, child sponsorship, women’s empowerment and skills development projects, and annual outreach events such as youth camps and medical camps.
Beyond his work with Shelter of Hope, Ishmael serves in pastoral ministry and holds leadership roles within broader Christian networks. He has been a pastor at Hope Bible Chapel in Nairobi and serves as the General Secretary of the Kenya Brethren Mission Fund, reflecting his deep commitment to spiritual as well as social transformation.
Ishmael’s approach combines compassion, faith, and practical solutions that not only meet immediate needs—such as hunger and lack of education—but also empower communities toward long-term independence and dignity. His work continues to inspire many in Kenya and across the global development community.
